Senior Advisor

Media & Communications

About the job

FMRS Advisory is a boutique strategic advisory firm working at the intersection of business, government and media.

We advise CEOs, executives and boards during complex, high-stakes situations requiring judgement, clarity and discipline. Our work is hands-on and Partner-led, with senior attention embedded in every project.

We are seeking a Senior Advisor (5–10 years’ experience) to strengthen our media and communications capacity.

The Role

You will work closely with Partners on strategy and execution across live issues. This is an externally facing consulting role requiring confidence, discretion and good instincts.

Media engagement is a core component, but the role extends across broader communications advisory. You will contribute to strategy, manage defined streams of work and support clients across external and internal communication needs.

Salary Range: $140,000 - $170,000 plus 12% superannuation.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage media engagement and real-time issue response within agreed strategy

  • Translate strategy into structured communications plans across media, stakeholder and internal audiences

  • Prepare executive briefing notes, board updates and structured communications packs

  • Develop messaging frameworks and ensure consistency across owned and earned channels

  • Draft high-quality materials – media responses, statements, Q&As, speeches, LinkedIn content and opinion pieces

  • Support internal communications during change or sensitive periods

  • Track media, stakeholder and political developments, advising on emerging risks and implications for clients

  • Maintain productive relationships with journalists and producers

  • Contribute to FMRS frameworks, templates and standards

You will be expected to exercise sound judgement, escalate appropriately and operate calmly in sensitive situations.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5–10 years’ experience in journalism, political offices or senior business communications or public affairs roles

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex or sensitive issues

  • Strong writing clarity across media, executive and internal formats

  • Media, political, and commercial instincts

  • Mature judgement around risk and escalation

  • A collaborative approach and commitment to collective outcomes

You should be comfortable advising senior leaders within a disciplined, team-based environment.

Professional Development & Growth

We put a high priority on professional development for our team. You will work directly with experienced Partners, gaining exposure to high-level strategy and complex decision-making.

This role is suited to someone who wants to deepen strategic capability, sharpen judgement and broaden their understanding of how media, politics and corporate reputation intersect. As the firm grows, there will be opportunity to grow with it.

Our Standards

We value solidarity, clarity and excellence in delivery. We operate with high trust and high expectations, and we take collective responsibility for the quality of our work.

If this sounds like the kind of team you’d do your best work in, we’d like to hear from you.
